When Peter came to me looking to expand his sound for the album 'Nothing You'd Wish Away', I was only too happy to oblige. We talked at length about personal influences, philosophies, etc., and began a long and careful process of experimentation.
Beginning with a single vocal and rolling piano line, Peter's arrangements leave great opportunities for a composer/producer to step in and harmonically elaborate upon.
The songs 'Blue Rain' and 'River Flow' (which features backing vocals by Laurie Reid [Daniel Lanois]) both share a lonely yet hopeful vibe; a wistfulness that charmed me immediately when I first heard them.
In the case of 'Blue Rain', it was especially challenging for me to preserve the original sensibility with which it was delivered while maxing the track out and giving it a post-modern makeover.
Needless to say, I'm very happy with the final product.
