Among other things, working with Angelica offered me the perfect opportunity to re-invigorate today's commercial R+B/ funk/soul music, as evidenced with the track 'Crazy'.
When I put this track together (spring 2004), I thought it would be both fun and fresh to bring live instruments back to a genre that relies only too often on loops, samples and otherwise pre-recorded and uninventive instrumentation these days.
With the help of drummer Will Gale and bassist Barry Murry, I was able to elevate the track beyond the realm of modern generic and in to something that would make Sly Stone, George Clinton, Stevie Wonder et al. very proud indeed!
(There's just something about jamming with a live drummer and bassist that no amount of 'beat-making' will ever be able to touch...)
